Traditional Health Workers have existed in Douglas County well before they were known by that name and well before certification pathways existed. With the development of certification pathways starting in 2014, Douglas County saw the beginning of the organization of the THW workforce. Nearly a decade later in 2025, Douglas County THWs organized to form the Douglas County THW Advisory group, providing networking and continuing education opportunities for THWs in the community. The efforts to grow a cohesive network of THW professionals continues through the addition of other projects like speaking engagements, a newsletter, community service projects and now this website.
